The Wenger Group internships offer students a unique exposure to many facets of technology and its relationship with agriculture.  The Wenger Group tailors the internship to meet both the student and company objectives for a mutually beneficial experience.  The Nutrition and Quality Control Lab intern will gain hands on experience working in a Quality Control laboratory.  She/ he will be responsible for preparing and analyzing samples provided to the lab from Feed Mills and Foliage samples..

What will you do:

  • Ensure adherence to Wenger policies, methods, and disciplines.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment that is compliance with all OSHA regulations as well as applicable company Health and Safety Compliance protocols.
  • Log in, label and store samples received by the Nutrition & Quality Control Lab.
  • Performs analysis of samples following prescribed procedures, including wet chemistry, NIR and gravimetric analysis. 
  • Calibrate and utilize instrumentation for sample analysis. 
  • Completes all paperwork associated with the analyses in a neat and timely fashion.
  • Prepare SOP's, work procedures and test methods as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications needed:

  • Fundamental understanding of Lab Safety.
  • Ability to safely use hazardous chemicals.
  • Able to understand or follow written testing procedures.
  • Very strong attention to detail. 
  • Able to work well both independently and in a small group setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. repeatedly and up to 100 lbs. on occasion
  • Ability to climb ladders and work in high places
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to work in dusty conditions
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Chemistry, Animal Science, Agriculture or a related field.
  • Classroom experience working with analytical, wet chemistry and NIR testing.
  • Strong Organizational skills coupled with a strong attention to detail.
